Views and acreage dreams come true and the Wolf of Mosier couldn't be happier!
Harley, the Wolf Of Mosier
Scott and Shari have had an eye out for a place in the Gorge for a decade. Both enjoy the outdoor recreation, sun and big sky that is found out east, plus Scott is an avid kite surfer. It's been a dream to have their own slice of heaven in one of Oregon's most iconic places, the Columbia River Gorge. Being designers and renovators, buying a polished up home done in a way that would likely not suit them wasn't appealing. As a matter of fact, they have bought and sold many homes, and are always looking for that junky house that no one else wants. They are magic in motion and can turn the ugliest of ducklings into a swan. We found a really nice ugly one for them! But, it sits on acreage, with southern exposure and views of the hills and Mt Adams. You can make most any home beautiful, but you can't put a mountain in front of one! This ugly duckling had not been lived in for many years, and was in foreclosure. Working with banks from across the country, who have never seen the property and care more about their "process" than finding common ground is challenging. It took several tries to get a response from the case manager, who doesn't sign an offer until there is full verbal agreement. Once that milestone was behind us, inspections revealed big problems, like a failed septic and well system. A new price was proposed to address those things, but we were told to get lost and had to terminate. They put it back on the market and let it sit. We made another as-is offer. It was rejected without a counter of any sort. Months went by. Then, they reduced the price to what was finally a reasonable point, but without reaching out to us. We yet again submitted an offer. This time they told us we were competing. Since inspections on our part had already been done, we could fully remove that contingency and offer a fast closing. That finally did it and we were under contract, for reals! Working with foreclosures takes time and patience. What seems like common sense doesn't apply as they move through their systems and processes, applying one mode of operation to all markets, locations and types of homes. But patience can pay off and this place is going to really shine once these guys are done with it. In the meantime, Harley the golden retriever (or Wolf of Mosier) is having as much fun as her humans, rolling in the grass, hunting down carcasses and chasing rabbits on the new family farm.
